Watery Wednesday #46

Posted by Stephany on July 28, 2009

The quality of the imagination is to flow and not to freeze.

McGalliard Falls - Valdese, NC
One of my favorite spots to relax is McGalliard Falls in Valdese, North Carolina. I enjoy sitting on the rocks in McGalliard Creek and watching the water rushing over the 40 foot drop to the base of the falls.
Every year, in early June, the town of Valdese stocks the creek above the falls with 1200 rainbow trout and hosts a fishing tournament for kids under 15 and seniors 55 and older. Trophies are awarded for catching the most fish in each age group. At noon, they grill hotdogs and have a fish fry for the families.

    This is a beautiful shot!
I so would love sitting there – I’ll bring the iced tea. :)

To answer your question on my WW – my house is gray and you’ve seen hints of it in my photos but no, the one in my post by the river isn’t mine. I took the photo from an old fort way above the river looking down and across the Ohio River. What you see is the Ohio side of the river.

The fishing event sounds like so much fun and this photo is fabulous. We have seen a swim meet in Valdese but never seen this view!

That fishing day has a wonderful community feel to it, Stephany. I love the flavour of fried/grilled rainbow trout. They are plentiful in our southern state, Tasmania.

Your photograph is a delight – although maybe not a calming experience. I am so pleased we are back in contact.

Oh, now, I haven’t been to a fish fry in ages! I’d love to go to one – My dad used to have one several times each summer, but we just haven’t had one recently.

Your photo is absolutely gorgeous! It reminds me of a place near my parent’s farm.

    Have a wonderful week!

That’s a great picture. We take Pickles the Dog out to the falls routinely and let her play in the water.
