Bobcats (Felis rufus) are common in the mountains of North Carolina. They make their dens in small caves, under rock ledges and in hollow trees. Somewhat larger than domestic cats, bobcats range from 24 to 40 inches in length, including the tail. They are solitary hunters and prey mostly on small mammals but will also eat deer and birds. Bobcats begin breeding when they are a year old, usually in late winter or early spring.
The entire time I watched, this baby bobcat only had eyes for the branches hanging out of his reach. You can almost see the gears turning as he tried to figure out how to get up there.

Hi Step, these are lovely captures. My neighbor has 3 bobcats as pets. One mama, and 2 small ones. They are adorable and huge and pretty tame.

Just terrific, Stephany! From the stipple on the nostril, to the tiny curl of just-visible tongue: a most delicious close-up.
Brava!

SOOOOO cute. It makes me want one. But of course it would be terribly unhappy.
