When I pulled the photo off of my camera and got a good look, I was very disappointed. The color was horrible and it was obvious that I had royally messed up the settings.

I decided to see how it would look in grey scale before trashing it. The change in color, a few small tweaks and it took on a slightly sinister tone – the small evergreen in the back began to look like a cloaked figure and the box (in front of the tree to the left) resembled a coffin. The birds were a bonus.

The thermometer crept above 70 this afternoon (of course, it will be in the mid 50′s again on Sunday). While the dogs and I were enjoying the warmer weather, we were serenaded by some feathered friends. Cardinals, wrens, nuthatch, titmouse, chickadees, and a pair of downy woodpeckers came to call. We also had the mystery guest shown below. I believe it was a male European Starling but I can’t swear to it.

Today was beautiful – blue skies and lots of sunshine – with a high around 57° F. While I was grooming the dogs, I happened to notice the birds. It was hard not to notice them. There were birds everywhere – singing, chirping, fighting over food, flapping their wings. Out came the camera and I spent a couple of hours trying to get some good shots. The five above are the best of the batch. I had to sacrifice some quality for a faster speed.

Click the photo to see the individual images. In the last two photos you can see where the leaves are trying to re-bud on my maples. They’re as confused by the unseasonably warm weather as the birds and flower bulbs.

By the way, I’ve changed the format for the photos. If you can’t see them, or they take too long to load, please leave a comment and I will change them back. Thanks!
