Bead Challenge – Day 11

Make a beaded gift…

This bracelet goes to my friend who makes pottery.  It is worked in right angle weave.

The coloring of the unakite beads remind me of some of the vases she has made.

 Materials Used:
  4mm Unakite gemstone round beads
Mill Hill size 11 seed beads, cream
  Gold plated filigree box clasp
  6 pound Fireline

Bead Challenge – Day 10

Use a found object in a jewelry design…

I “found” the butterflies twice. The first time was on the clearance rack at Hobby Lobby – about two years ago. The second time was Friday when I was digging through the gardening box. The butterflies (made from feathers) were flower pot decorations.  They had a wire attached that I cut and shaped into a eyelet to attach to the chain.

A closer look at the flowers.  They are a very nice acrylic with no visible seams.  The leaf is Czech glass.  All findings are gold plated.

DBS-0041, Transparent silver-lined crystal
DBS-0165, Transparent silver-lined cobalt
DBS-0043, Transparent silver-lined orange
6-pound Fireline

Bead Challenge – Day 8

Have a date with a bead friend…

All of my beading friends are working, so my “date” is being pushed to Sunday. I crocheted a little jewelry bag before starting the project for Day 9.   The bag is modified from a pattern by Drew Emborsky, The Crochet Dude.

Bead Challenge – Day 7

Use a different metal in your jewelry…

Normally, I use silver or gold.  This time I used copper to make a pair of earrings. With the exception of the 2.5mm copper beads and the spacers, all findings are handmade.

Materials Used:
  2 – 2.5mm Round copper beads
  2 – 6mm Chocolate pearls
  2 – 8mm Chocolate pearls
  4 – Copper spacers
  Copper wire, 22 gauge

Bead Challenge – Day 6

Create your own color palette…

Today, the challenge was to choose 3 or more colors that we think make a beautiful palette for jewelry, then, (if we had time) use those colors to create a unique piece of jewelry.

Here is my palette with project in progress.  I’m making an amulet bag with a Russian Matryoshka.  I used a drawing to create the pattern.  The stitch is 5-drop Peyote.  After I finish the amulet, I will post the pattern.

Materials Used:
  Delica Seed Beads, Size 11
  DB-0218, Opaque luster medium blue
  DB-0001, Gunmetal (metallic hematite)
  DB-0233, Opaque luster butterscotch yellow
  DB-0214, Opaque luster dark red
DB-1561, Opaque luster light butter rum
  Fireline, 6 pound
